At least 12 nations have verified more than 80 cases of monkeypox.

Another 50 suspected cases are being investigated, according to the World Health Organization, without mentioning any nations, and more instances are anticipated to be reported.

Infections have been reported in nine European nations, as well as the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Monkeypox is mainly prevalent in rural areas of Central and West Africa.

According to the UK's National Health Service, it is a rare viral illness that is usually mild and recovers in a few weeks.

The virus is not easily transmitted between humans, and the risk to the general public is thought to be quite minimal.

There is no specific vaccine for monkeypox, but a smallpox jab offers 85% protection since the two viruses are quite similar.
