SPAIN'S HEATWAVE RESULTED IN RECORD-BREAKING MAY TEMPERATURES

  • 22/05/2022

According to the state meteorological agency, AEMET, parts of Spain are having their hottest May ever, with temperatures reaching more than 40 degrees Celsius in certain spots.

The EPA issued heat advisories in ten districts for Saturday, predicting "one of the most extreme" heatwaves in years.

On Friday, the city of Jaén in southern Spain achieved its highest May temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.

Heatwaves are becoming more common and stronger as a result of climate change.

Spain's exceptionally warm spring weather is caused by hot air from North Africa, which causes temperatures to climb by up to 15 degrees Celsius over average for this time of year.
