Ray Liotta, the Goodfellas actor, died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic at the age of 67.

According to his publicist Jennifer Allen, the US actor was on site filming the film Dangerous Waters.

He was well recognised for his role as mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's 1990 gangster picture Goodfellas, as well as his appearance in Field of Dreams.

In the 1986 black comedy Something Wild, Liotta starred as ex-convict Ray Sinclair.

He was nominated for a Golden Globe for that part, and he went on to play in the 1988 film Dominick and Eugene, about the complicated relationship between twins with radically different personalities.
