The number of individuals murdered when an incomplete building collapsed in south-west Iran has grown to 24.

Dozens more were hurt when the 10-story Metropol office building in Abadan collapsed on Monday.

Concrete floors and steel beams were seen falling onto the roadway below, smashing several cars.

The search and rescue operation is still going on, and the cause of the collapse is being looked into.

At least ten persons have been arrested, including the owner of the Metropol, the building contractor, the mayor, and two former mayors.

Hundreds of angry people, many banging drums and hitting cymbals, took to the streets in Abadan on Thursday night and Friday morning, in protest.
