The resumption of grain exports from Ukrainian ports improved the outlook for supplies, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) global food price index decreased for the fifth consecutive month in August, moving further away from all-time highs hit earlier in the year.

The FAO index, which tracks the most traded food commodities worldwide, averaged 138 points in August, down from a revised level of 140.7 in July.

The previous estimate for July was 140.9.
