ELON MUSK BLAMES 'ACTIVIST GROUPS' ON TWITTER FOR DECLINE IN EARNINGS

Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, has attributed a "massive drop in revenue" to "activist groups pressuring advertisers" as the company makes significant job cuts in an effort to reduce costs.

Tesla's billionaire owner claimed on Twitter that "activists" trying to suppress free speech in America are raising issues with how Twitter is moderated.

It happened on Friday, the same day that Twitter widely reduced its workforce globally.

According to reports, thousands of employees lost their jobs.

The head of safety and integrity for the company, Yoel Roth, appeared to confirm in a tweet thread that "approximately 50%" of Twitter's workforce had been laid off. He added that most of the 2,000+ content moderators "working on front-line review were not impacted" by the cuts.

Mr Musk posted his own comments, saying he was presented "no choice" over what he called Twitter's "reduction in force", as the company was losing $4m (£3.51m) a day.
