INCREASE IN NUMBER OF DOMESTIC WORKERS SEEKING REFUGE IN EMBASSIES, NO RADICLA SOLUTION TO CRISIS FOUND

Kuwait City: Bassam Al-Shammari, an expert on domestic labour issues, stated that the overcrowding of domestic workers inside of their countries' embassies in Kuwait is a phenomenon that is currently resurfacing. He described how a particular nation's embassy, which is regarded as the first supplier of domestic workers to Kuwait, is crammed full of female domestic workers.

They consist of those who were reported as evading by their employers or those who had disagreements with their sponsors and were unable to come to an amicable resolution. It takes a while to follow the legal procedure through the Public Authority for Manpower, and they ultimately don't get paid in full.

This is based on the expeditious resolution of potential conflicts between female employees and their employers. Some embassies have issued internal circulars requiring the non-ratification of transactions with any local recruitment company or office with more than five domestic workers who are having issues with their sponsors as a result of this accumulation.

He urged all relevant authorities, led by the Department for Regulating the Recruitment of Domestic Workers, to concentrate on learning from past errors and avoiding the accumulation of domestic workers within their countries' embassies, particularly given that such an accumulation has historically been the main factor in halting the supply of labourers of a particular nationality.
