EGG SUPPLY REDUCTION AND PRICE INCREASE ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BY 14 CO-OPS

Kuwait City: 14 cooperative societies have been reported to the disciplinary board by the Kuwait Competition Protection Agency for the unfair price increase on eggs. The agency found that these cooperatives restricted competition between regional egg suppliers, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, which reduced supply and raised prices.

The agency, according to sources who spoke to the daily, looked into complaints made by egg supply and poultry breeding businesses in accordance with the Competition Protection Law. According to sources, a portion of the cooperative societies' interactions with regional egg suppliers contributed to the roughly 25% increase in price for this commodity.

The agency claimed in its report that while the 14 cooperatives' violations of the fair competition principle hurt other suppliers, they are not the primary cause of the increase in egg prices. It is important to note that the current price of eggs in some cooperatives varies depending on size from KD1.1 to KD1.350 per tray.
