Riyadh:  In Saudi Arabia, indigenization is being extended to 12 more areas. This was announced by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Engineer Ahmed Al Rajhi. He was speaking at a special session on innovative work styles organized as part of the 10th Economic Forum in Riyadh.

The move to expand naturalization is part of efforts to bring down the unemployment rate among expatriates in Saudi Arabia to seven percent. By the end of this year, it is planned to implement the indigenization in 12 more areas. But it is not yet clear which areas this is. Currently, the unemployment rate among Saudi nationals has dropped to 9.7 percent. This is the lowest rate in the last 20 years. The minister said that 22 lakh natives are currently working in the private sector in the country.

At the same time, as part of the indigenization process in Saudi Arabia, citizens of the Gulf countries can also work in all employment fields reserved for natives only. In addition to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has confirmed that citizens of the GCC countries of UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain can also be included in the naturalized posts, a local media reported.

The Ministry has also clarified that if a Gulf citizen is appointed to any post which is limited to natives only, excluding expatriates, it will be included in the implementation of indigenization in that institution.
