Riyadh: The Saudi General Traffic Department has issued a public reminder stating that sudden, unnecessary braking while driving is considered a traffic violation. Such actions can lead to dangerous road situations and collisions, particularly involving vehicles following behind.

Motorists found violating this rule could face a fine of up to 500 riyals. Officials highlighted that this measure is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and prevent accidents caused by abrupt stops.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution and avoid applying brakes suddenly unless absolutely necessary. In the event of an emergency, it is recommended to use turn signals and safely move the vehicle to the roadside while activating parking lights.

The traffic department emphasized the importance of contacting emergency services when needed and reiterated that the regulation aims to reduce growing incidents of accidents linked to reckless braking.
