Global food prices reach record highs

Kuwait City, Jan 7: Global prices for food commodities has hit the highest on record for the entire year in 2022 even after falling for nine months in a row, the U. N said, after Russia attacked Ukraine, a leading global supplier of wheat and vegetable oils. 

The Food And Agricultural Organization said on Friday, Food Price Index which tracks monthly alteration in the international prices of globally traded food commodities, dipped by 1.9% in December from a month earlier. But the index was 14.3 percent higher overall in 2022 compared to 2021 as it reached an all-time high of 143.7 points.
