Human Rights Watch criticizes Kuwait regarding freedom

Kuwait City, Jan 16: Human Rights Watch directed a number of harsh criticisms of Kuwait with regard to freedoms, such as freedom of expression and the empowerment of women. In its 2023 annual report on human rights around the world, the organization said that Kuwait has further restricted women's rights, while failing to address discrimination and violence against them.

The report criticized the continued restriction of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and the trial of activists and others, using many provisions of the Penal Code, national security laws and cybercrimes. The report also indicated that Kuwait, is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
