America approves world's 1st vaccine against Chickungunya virus

On Thursday, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the world’s first vaccine against Chickungunya virus, which was developed by Europe’s Valneva and will be sold under the Ixchiq brand.


Chikungunya is a virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes. Symptoms of the virus include fever, and joint pain. It is most common in Africa, southeast Asia, and parts of the United States.
