A post on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Finance Ministry stirred controversy after it appeared to request international loans, citing "severe damage caused by enemy attacks." The message, which called on global partners to ease Pakistan’s economic crisis amidst war and stock market collapse, was later denied by the ministry, which claimed the account was hacked and disassociated itself from the post.
The disputed post reportedly said: “In the wake of devastating losses inflicted by the enemy, we urge international partners to extend further loans to mitigate the economic crisis caused by war and market collapse.”
This incident follows escalating conflict after India launched strong retaliatory attacks in 12 Pakistani cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar, in response to provocations following the first phase of Operation Sindoor. Explosions were reported near the residences of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir in Islamabad. Reports suggest Sharif was relocated to a secure location.
India declared a total blackout following continued provocations from Pakistan early in the morning in Jammu, where air raid sirens were sounded.
Amid the heightened security threat, 24 Indian airports were shut down, including those in Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Leh, and Jammu. Numerous flight services from Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other cities were cancelled, with at least 29 flights affected on Wednesday alone.
