Protests Erupt in Los Angeles Over Immigration Raids as Trump Administration Ramps Up Deportations

Washington: Mass protests erupted in Los Angeles for the second day following federal immigration raids carried out under the Trump administration’s directive to speed up deportations. Violent clashes have been reported, leading to the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to the area in an effort to control the unrest.

Former President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that if California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass fail to maintain order, the federal government will intervene. Trump accused both leaders of being incapable of resolving the ongoing situation and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to taking decisive action.

Governor Gavin Newsom responded by accusing the Trump administration of provoking conflict and warned that sending troops would only heighten tensions and damage public trust. Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt criticized California’s Democratic leadership for failing to ensure public safety and emphasized the federal government’s zero-tolerance stance.

Over 40 people have been arrested so far, many charged with obstructing law enforcement operations. The protests, particularly intense in Paramount City, began after immigration officers raided multiple locations on Friday. Clashes broke out when demonstrators tried to block the raids, which they view as unjust and aggressive.

The raids and subsequent protests are seen as part of a broader initiative by the Trump administration to increase deportations of undocumented immigrants across the United States.
