Bahrain Signs Peaceful Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement with the US

Manama: Bahrain has entered into a new peaceful nuclear energy cooperation agreement with the United States, marking a significant step toward expanding civil nuclear partnerships between the two nations.

The agreement was signed during a high-level meeting at the White House between US President Donald Trump and Bahraini Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Bahraini representative Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Sayani signed the deal on behalf of their countries.

Secretary Rubio described the agreement as an important milestone, emphasizing that it demonstrates the US’s readiness to cooperate with any nation that pursues a civilian nuclear program without weaponization or posing a threat to regional security — an indirect reference to US concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

During the White House meeting, Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa also announced Bahrain’s plans to invest over $17 billion in the United States, highlighting the deepening economic ties between the two countries.

This new agreement builds on the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (CSIPA) signed in 2023 and reflects the Bahraini leadership’s vision under King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman.

The focus of the nuclear deal is to use nuclear energy solely for peaceful and beneficial purposes, including electricity generation, medical advancements, agricultural development, water resource management, and environmental sustainability.

This cooperation underscores Bahrain’s commitment to responsible nuclear development while strengthening its strategic partnership with the United States.
