The 9th edition of the Al Dhaid Date Festival, hosted at Expo Al Dhaid until July 27, highlights the UAE’s focus on community under the theme of the ‘Year of Community.’ Organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), this year’s event emphasizes support for productive families and home-based entrepreneurs who blend heritage with modern enterprise.

Visitors can explore a dedicated pavilion showcasing handmade crafts like woven palm-frond items (sarood, mahafat, makhareef, saf), heritage containers, Emirati dishes such as harees and machboos, and local products including natural honey, spice mixes, and Arabic coffee.

SCCI Director-General Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi emphasized that involving these families supports inclusivity and sustainable development, aligning with the chamber’s social responsibility goals. Artisans like Khesbah Saeed Mohammed and Maryam Al Yamahi praised the festival for offering them a platform to display traditional crafts while reaching wider markets.

The festival continues to serve as a powerful cultural and economic platform, reinforcing the significance of the date palm in Emirati life and supporting small-scale local businesses.
