UAE Declares September 5 Public Holiday for Prophet’s Birthday

  • 26/08/2025

The UAE government has declared September 5 a public holiday for all public and private sector employees to observe the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued a circular confirming the holiday for federal entities, while the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) extended the directive to private sector workers, ensuring a unified day off with paid leave.

The holiday is marked with respectful reflection rather than elaborate festivities, aligning with Islamic traditions. Since 2019, the UAE has harmonized public and private sector holidays to promote consistency, work-life balance, and social cohesion across all segments of society.

This announcement means both government offices and private businesses will suspend operations on September 5. The next scheduled public holiday will be National Day on December 2–3, offering a two-day break to commemorate the UAE’s founding.

The unified holiday system reflects the government’s commitment to cultural and religious inclusivity, ensuring all residents can observe significant occasions together. Authorities extended warm wishes to the UAE’s leadership, citizens, and the broader Arab and Islamic world on this occasion.
