The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has confirmed that Kuwait's natural rainy season, known as "Al-Wasm," will begin on Thursday, October 16, 2025. This season lasts for 52 days and is divided into four distinct astronomical phases, each 13 days long. The arrival of Al-Wasm brings moderate daytime weather, cooler nights, and the seasonal migration of birds.
A key characteristic of this period is the sun's southward tilt, which reduces the angle of its rays and leads to shorter, milder days and significantly longer nights. The season is marked by the onset of rainfall, which is crucial for the ecosystem as it predicts a prosperous spring and the future appearance of truffles. The first phase of Al-Wasm, "Al-Awa'," is also the beginning of the "Howling" season, noted for its distinct climatic changes.
In a separate announcement, the center concluded its astronomical photography competition in cooperation with several scientific institutions. The winners, including photographers from Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, were awarded in categories such as "Blood Moon," "Phases of a Lunar Eclipse," and "Lunar Eclipse with a Landscape," highlighting the region's engagement with celestial events.
