Dubai Bans Delivery Riders from High-Speed Lanes to Curb Rising Accidents

  • 19/10/2025

In a joint announcement, Dubai's RTA and Police have instituted a new rule prohibiting delivery riders from using high-speed lanes, effective November 1st. Specifically, riders are banned from the leftmost two lanes on roads with five or more lanes and the leftmost lane on roads with three or four lanes. This measure reinforces existing restrictions and is a direct response to a significant rise in accidents involving delivery bikes.

The decision is backed by concerning statistics, which show an increase in accidents from 854 in the previous year to 962 in the current year. Furthermore, traffic violations issued to riders have surged, with 78,386 fines levied in just the first nine months of this year compared to 70,166 for the entire previous year. Authorities state that reckless driving in high-speed lanes is a primary cause of these incidents.

To incentivize compliance, the authorities have also introduced the 'Delivery Sector Excellence Award' to honor companies that adhere to the new lane restrictions. This initiative aims to foster healthy competition among delivery operators, improve overall traffic safety, and encourage a culture of strict adherence to traffic laws.
