Kuwait City : As per reports, the Ministry of Interior has stopped granting residency to expatriates for a period of two years or more. It has been decided to grant residence only for one year including expat wives of Kuwaitis, children of Kuwaiti women, expat mothers, wives and children of expats. The reason for granting residence for a year was due to the repercussions of the new coronavirus pandemic. The new decision applies to everyone except for employees of private sector who are inside Kuwait and have official work permits for two or more years. Around 130000 illegal expats, only 400 expatriates have applied to amend their status since the beginning of the month of December. The largest number of applications was received by Farwaniya followed by the capital and Hawally. The Ministry of Interior has given a period of one month of Dec to amend the status for illegal expats who are residing without proper residence or leave the country. As of now 2300 appointments have been booked, but those who visited the residency affairs department were very few. As per reports, large numbers of residence violators are unable to pay fines nor high prices for air tickets.
