Kuwait City: Daher Al Suwain, head of the Kuwait Fishermen's Union, said the fish market was facing a severe shortage of imported and local fish. He also demanded that the Sharq and Fahaheel markets be re-auctioned.

It is a situation where a large number of shops are closed due to shortage of fish. The shrimp fishing season starts from August 1. This will make the shrimp and some local fish available to the customers as per their requirement.

He said he had written to the relevant authorities requesting that Kuwait Bay be allowed to fish with restrictions. However, the union's request was rejected by the authorities. Therefore, the availability of fish in the market is very low, he added.
