CHARTERED FLIGHT TO KUWAIT, MANY PEOPLE CHEATED

Kuwait City:  Many people who paid for tickets were cheated after seeing an advertisement for a low-cost chartered flight to Kuwait. The scam was perpetrated in the name of Delhi-based Marhaba Travels, which allegedly offered tickets at half the fare of airlines.

A Jharkhand native and three Kozhikode residents have lodged a complaint with the police, who suspect that most of them may have been robbed. They lost Rs 89,333 paid in advance for the ticket. After filing a complaint with the police, the buyer switched off his mobile phone and drowned.

A flight ticket from Kochi to Kuwait costs Rs 1 lakh. However, the complaint lodged with the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner states that CK Anees, who introduced himself as a representative of Delhi-based Malappuram Nilambur, cheated him by offering him a ticket for Rs 45,000.

The complainant, a native of Kozhikode Chakumkadavu, said that he saw the WhatsApp message on September 28 that there was a chartered flight to Kuwait and contacted the number. Says Zahir. Jazeera Airlines said they had bought 40 tickets, four of which were left over and would pay if they paid immediately. The advance was paid after confirming that there was a flight service on the 28th in connection with the airline. But when contacted again for a ticket on the 25th, he said he needed the rest. He asked her to send her Aadhaar card if she wanted to pay more, but he refused. Subsequent inquiries by friends in Nilambur revealed that there was no such travel agency there. On the same day, he lodged a complaint with the Panniyankara police.

Everyone sent money for the ticket in the name of CK Anees. All those who contacted his phone number were told that he had three tickets left and that he would pay them immediately. So it is doubtful that more people may have been cheated. He assured the police that he would return the money but later switched off the phone and there was no way to contact him.

Many of the victims returned to Kuwait as their visas expired. Complainant Zahir also paid Rs 75,000 and booked the ticket. Initially, the money was borrowed from many people and they had to pay more for the ticket. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
