HOME MINISTRY STRENGTHEN MEASURES AS TRAFFIC CONGESTION INCREASES IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Loss of validity licenses has led to an increase in traffic in the country during rush hours, officials said. There are thousands of expired or invalidated licenses in the country. The Interior Ministry has revealed that more than 40,000 licenses issued to students during their studies are still in use.

Authorities also said that many domestic workers were being misused after obtaining their licenses and that steps would be taken to track them down. Although such use is illegal, the maximum fine is only five dinars, so alumni and domestic drivers continue to drive with their licenses. The Home Department has held discussions with the Public Authority for Manpower and the Residence Affairs Authority in this regard.

According to a local newspaper, the ministry will be able to ban all transactions, including renewal of their residence permits, if the new changes are made. There are also plans to suspend the issuance of driving licenses to expatriates until a new system is in place to issue licenses to foreigners.
