EMBASSY CLOSED, THOUSANDS OF ETHIOPIANS WILL HAVE TO PAY HEFTY FINES

Kuwait City:  Ethiopians in 31 countries, including Kuwait, are worried as the embassies and consulates of 31 countries have been closed by the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since September 1 as part of austerity measures. It is estimated that there are about 30,000 to 35,000 Ethiopians in the country. 90% of them are domestic workers.

Ethiopians in Kuwait do not have an embassy to represent them following the decision of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A large number of Ethiopians submitted their passports to the Consular Section of the Embassy in Kuwait for renewal.

But they were told to check on the Ethiopian embassy's Facebook page where to renew their passports due to the sudden closure. But there was no mention of anything new on the embassy page except for the September closure information.
