Kuwait City: The Directorate General of Mobilization Director Col. Tariq Al Saber has announced that the process of recruiting women into the army has begun. For the first time in Kuwait's history, women have been allowed to join the army by Defense Minister Hamad Jabir al-Ali. Of the 200 in the first batch, 150 will be assigned to the Amiri Guard and 50 to the Medical Services.

Young women joining the army will be given a three-month training course. The registration process will be through the Ministry of Defense's website and security and medical committees will review applications before calling applicants for a personal interview, officials said. Although there are women in the police force in Kuwait, women are sent to the Armed Forces Military Service. This is the first time it has been considered.
