UNEMPLOYMENT IS ON RISE AMONG KUWAIT, GOVERNMENT TO TAKE DRASTIC MEASURES

Kuwait City: Studies show that unemployment is on the rise among the natives in the country. According to financial reports, the government will not be able to provide employment to 70% of Kuwaitis in the next five years. The report said that only a maximum of 25 per cent to 30 per cent of the jobs in the government sector could be created in the next five years and the rest would have to be employed in the private sector. The availability of new appointments in the private sector will help to alleviate the financial pressure of the country. The inability to provide new employment opportunities to the natives who complete their degree every year poses a major challenge in the employment sector.

The study recommended that the current imbalance in the labor market between the public and private sectors be addressed and reforms be introduced to bridge the gap between the two sectors. At the same time, there is a move to increase the ratio of natives to foreigners in each sector of employment and to increase the proportion of natives in the private sector. The current situation is that even though the government provides special benefits in addition to salary, the natives are not interested in working in private companies.
