Kuwait City: Despite a 0.7 percent decrease from the previous year, Kuwait ranked second in the Gulf and 30 globally out of 113 countries in the Food Security Index for 2021.

The Global Food Security Index (GFSI), a quantitative and qualitative dynamic benchmarking model based on 58 unique indicators to measure the drivers of food security in both developing and developed countries, classifies food security based on four factors:

1- Food cost tolerance: This factor assesses consumers' ability to purchase food, their susceptibility to price shocks, and the existence of programmes and policies to assist consumers when price shocks occur.

2- Food availability: it is vulnerable to the sufficiency of the national food supply, the risk of supply disruptions, the national capacity to distribute food, and agricultural research efforts to expand agricultural production.

3- Quality and safety: This factor assesses the nutritional diversity and quality, as well as food safety.

4 – Natural resources: This factor evaluates the country's resilience and extent of exposure to climate change risks, the impact of these risks on natural resources risks, and how the country adapts to these risks.

According to the Economist Impact, Kuwait's performance in the global food security index has increased by 3.3 percent over the last decade.
