A medical team from the Sabah Al-Ahmad Heart Center successfully performed a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) on a 102-year-old Kuwaiti patient, which is regarded as a breakthrough in Kuwaiti medicine.

Dr. Nader Al-Asousi, a consultant cardiologist and therapeutic catheterization specialist, and Dr. Ahmed Saeed Taha, the first specialist in cardiology and therapeutic catheterization, performed the operation.

Her is the first operation of its kind on a patient of this age, as she had difficulties with and constriction of the aortic valve of her heart, which allows oxygen-laden blood to escape the heart and go to numerous organs throughout the body, impacting lung and other functions. The operation, which took place today, Tuesday, went well, and the patient's rehabilitation should only take a few days before she can resume her normal life outside of the hospital.

Nursing Officer Elaf Al-Saif, Hussam El-Din, and Khaled Melhem, as well as radiology technicians Manish Kumar and Sandeep Pillai, performed the procedure.
