GOVERNOR REQUESTING 'AMENDED' DECREE ON PROHIBITING NON-FAMILIES IN HOUSES IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, the Capital Governor, has proposed revising Decree No. 125/1992, which prohibits non-families from living in private and model homes, and establishing a municipal court to hear their cases. Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, in a letter to the former state minister for municipal affairs, said the proposal is based on the principle of reciprocity of roles and joint cooperation of all government agencies with the goal of providing the best solutions and proposals to address all challenges, and to activate responsibility for overseeing the state's general policy implementation and providing appropriate suggestions.

The governor stated that this is also to ensure that the public interest is served. "We submit two recommendations in conformity with the rules of decree No. 81/2014 respecting the governorate system," he stated. The first proposal is to alter the decree-law prohibiting non-families from being housed in private and model homes.

According to the updated proposal, portions of the law's clauses would be adjusted to reflect what was included in the ruling prohibiting non-family members, particularly non-Kuwaitis, from residing in private and model homes.

The negative impacts that are currently endangering Kuwaiti national identity and causing people' privacy to suffer would be eliminated with the ratification of this amendment. This is due to the diversity of social conventions and traditions found in Kuwaiti society, as well as the fabric's homogeneity.

Other negative consequences of this problem include an increase in real estate prices and their instability as a result of non-Kuwaiti families desiring Kuwaiti homes in order to benefit from reduced government support for services, which costs the state treasury large sums of money as a result of the exploitation and greed of some real estate owners.
