MINISTER SEEKS EASIEST SOLUTION TO RENEW WORK PERMITS OF '60s' IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: The issue of renewing work permits for non-graduate expatriate workers who have reached the age of 60 or more is thought to affect approximately 54,000 expatriates because the Public Authority for Manpower has been unable to issue a decision to put the issue to rest, which caused ripples in work circles at the beginning of 2020 when a decision was issued not to renew the residence permits of this category of workers.

According to reliable sources, a decree is being prepared to transfer the Public Authority for Manpower to the authority of the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Integrity Affairs, Justice Jamal Al- Jalawi, who will make the final decision on whether to lift the ban or approve the renewal of residence for 500 dinars with mandatory health insurance, or whatever decision the authorities may make in this regard.

According to the sources, Minister Al-Jalawi is well aware of the problem, and efforts are underway to find "the simplest solution to the problem that contributes to defending the rights of everyone while causing no harm to the economic sectors at the same time."

According to certain sources, the problem has caused a disturbance, and some organisations have already begun terminating the services of their skilled personnel rather than waiting indefinitely for a very long period. These employees have been promised by their employers that they will be reemployed if a decision is made to extend their work permits, but those who look for a new employer to sponsor them will encounter a significant dilemma.
