KUWAIT POLICY, ASSESSING THE LOSS OF SKILLED MIGRANT WORKERS

Kuwait City: Three million expatriates, who make up 70 percent of the country's 4.3 million population, point to Kuwait's population inequality, according to an Economic Observer report. In 2018, the Government of Kuwait adopted a policy and plan to reduce this imbalance. Based on this, it is expected that the number of expatriates will be reduced to 1.6 million by 2025. Kuwait is currently implementing Kuwaitiization vigorously.

Over the next few years, the number of expatriates in the country will remain a central issue. In 2021, 18,000 expatriates will be deported. And 270,000 expatriates left the country. However, this is due to the fact that the private sector is facing a huge shortage of labor in the country.

The difficulty in recruiting indigenous workers in the public sector has also become a threat to the growth of the country's economy. The health and education sectors are currently facing a severe shortage of staff. According to the Economic Observer, the government is currently unable to do anything in areas where Kuwaitis are not ready to work.
