KUWAIT'S CABINET CONSIDERS THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE UKRAINE CONFLICT

Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti Cabinet met in extraordinary session on Tuesday to follow up on the implications of the Russia-Ukraine military conflict at all levels in order to safeguard the country's security and the provision of all basic necessities to nationals and expats.


The Cabinet, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, heard a presentation on international political developments from Foreign Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and Acting Defense Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. The minister emphasised Kuwait's robust and principled stance against the use of force or the threat of using it against countries. 

Kuwait is monitoring the deteriorating situations and rising tensions in Ukraine with great concern and regret, according to the ministry. The State of Kuwait emphasised the importance of adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter that govern state relations, which are based on respecting states' sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the principles of good neighbourliness and peaceful dispute resolution. 

Kuwait asserted the importance of respecting Ukraine's independence and reaffirmed its full support for all international efforts aimed at de-escalation, self-restraint, peaceful resolution of international disputes, and taking necessary measures to protect civilians and ensure their safety, according to Sheikh Ahmad Nasser. He went on to explain how the Foreign Ministry is monitoring the problem and taking the appropriate steps to mitigate any negative consequences. 

Meanwhile, the Cabinet heard a presentation by Abdulwahab Al-Rashid, Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, on the measures taken by the ministry and Kuwait Investment Authority to assess the effects of the Russia-Ukraine crisis on Kuwait and the measures taken to mitigate its consequences. Furthermore, the ministers heard a clarification from Minister of Commerce and Industry Fahd Al-Shariaan on the measures made to address the situation and its obstacles in order to secure the availability and price stability of all basic food supplies and key stock in Kuwait.
