CLOSE 'CORONA DONATION' ACCOUNTS' - THE GOVERNMENT INFORMS LOCAL BANKS

  • 18/03/2022

Kuwait City: According to a decision issued by the Council of Ministers, all local bank accounts that were actively receiving cash to support the government's efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic must be closed, while the main account with the Central Bank of Kuwait will continue to receive donations in this regard. According to informed sources, only the main account opened with the Central Bank of Kuwait would be retained to collect donations made in this regard, per directives issued by Minister of Finance Abdel Wahab Al- Rasheed.

He went on to say that the rationale for closing the accounts at local banks was a large decline in donations at local banks. It is worth noting that the Council of Ministers approved, during its extraordinary meeting on March 26, 2020, the establishment of intermediary accounts with all local banks to facilitate receiving cash contributions to support efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, provided the funds were transferred to the main account with the Central Bank of Kuwait.
