Kuwait City: With the approaching blessed month of Ramadan and increased demand for food supplies, meat, and cattle, the prices of items have risen dramatically in recent months, indicating that this was caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine. The daily which monitored the rate of increase in sheep prices in Shuwaikh and according to consumers the increase in'safat' sheep is manageable but expressed fear of prices rising during Ramadan, especially with the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the possible increase in fodder prices.

Consumers ask the government to strengthen price controls so that sheep ranchers and merchants do not take advantage of Ramadan and to ensure that prices are reasonable to everybody. Consumers cautioned that certain merchants may take advantage of the current situation and unfairly boost prices, and that it is the Ministry of Commerce's responsibility to guarantee this does not happen. A number of vendors in Shuwaikh's sheep market told the daily that the price increase is currently minor, and that prices always change owing to supply and demand, as increased demand for sheep, particularly during the fasting season, leads to an increase in pricing. The consumers explained that the price of local sheep increased by 10 dinars per head according to size, weight and age.
