Kuwait City: Ahmed Al-Enezi, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Ministry of Social Affairs, has asked the Public Communications Authority to restrict websites that solicit donations for charity initiatives from outside Kuwait. Al-Enezi explained that the ministry took this measure after seeing a slew of advertisements on social media sites asking donations for charity projects from outside Kuwait, whether from businesses or people who were not authorised to collect the funds.

The last of these advertisements, according to Al-Enezi, was a call on various social media sites to donate to establish an Islamic centre in one of the countries, which is in violation of the law regulating the licencing of collecting money for public purposes for the year 1959, which prohibits individuals or groups from collecting donations from the public by any means for the purpose of spending them for charity, public benefit, or assistance to the afflicted in Kuwait.

Al-Enezi emphasised that the ministry is closely monitoring all advertising and invites for collecting donations through teams associated with the Department of Charity Societies and Associations, and will take all legal steps against anybody who does not obey the laws and regulations. Al-Enezi emphasised that the Ministry of Social Affairs will not make any compromises in protecting the donors' finances and maintaining Kuwait's status as a leader in humanitarian and charitable activities.
