Kuwait City: After an emergency surgery in Kuwait, Kuwaiti ophthalmologist Dr. Khaled Al-Sabti was able to restore the eyesight of an 11-year-old Palestinian girl living in refugee camps in Jordan in a humanitarian gesture. Dr. Khaled Al-Sabti, a representative of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and the Kuwait Embassy in Jordan, informed KUNA that Roa'a Ahed had surgery in her left eye, after which she had another procedure in her right eye last Wednesday at Kuwait Specialized Eye Center.

He added that on a trip to the Syrian refugee camps in February as part of a KRCS group, they were told that the Palestinian youngster Roa'a had been blind for about a year. With the support of the Kuwaiti embassy in Jordan, where she landed in Kuwait last week with her father, KRCS has begun proceedings for hosting the kid. In an interview with KUNA, KRCS Secretary-General Maha Al-Barjas emphasised the organization's desire to carry out numerous humanitarian and relief projects throughout the year in various countries in collaboration with its partners. "We, the Red Crescent, are a humanitarian aid organisation that works within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; what we do is part of our job and part of helping people both internally and outside," she said.

The child case required hosting her in Kuwait, and we hope for the success of the surgery so Roa’a can return to her normal life and study, she added. As for Roa’a Ahed, and her father, Ahed Abdullah, they expressed sincere thanks to State of Kuwait for its humanitarian work.
