CROWN PRINCE ACCEPTS PRIME MINISTER'S RESIGNATION

Kuwait City: Kuwait's cabinet resigned on Tuesday, barely months after it was formed, adding to the country's uncertainty as it struggles with a deteriorating political crisis that has stalled important economic and social reforms. Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah resigned from the cabinet and handed it over to HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Sabah. Kuwait's collective administration has resigned for the third time in the last year and a half. A slew of new faces, including some recruited to pacify opposition blocs, were assigned to ministerial seats as recently as December, and their resignation today reflects their failure to implement reforms.

Sheikh Sabah is facing growing criticism. Angry MPs summoned him last week for extended questioning over his alleged corruption and mismanagement. They officially proclaimed him "unsuitable" and demanded a new prime minister to address the country's problems and implement much-needed reforms. Cabinet's departure follows the resignations of the defence and interior ministers earlier this year. Exasperated, the two senior ministers bemoaned their inability to achieve anything in oil-rich Kuwait due to Parliament's raucous opposition. In recent months, lawmakers have increasingly shown their political discontent and mistrust by questioning several unpopular ministers and postponing significant initiatives.
