Kuwait City: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is said to have turned down a request from the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) to increase the cost of recruiting domestic workers from 890 to 980 dinars (an increase of more than 10%) in order to help recruitment agencies cope with high recruitment costs, particularly in terms of ticket prices. In its response, the ministry stated that the cost of recruiting through offices and recruitment companies should not exceed 890 dinars, which includes the cost of the worker's flight ticket and examination in his or her home country.

The ministry stated that if the decision is violated, it will be forced to apply the law and restrict them from doing business, noting that a working group has been constituted to handle complaints connected to the ministerial decision. According to reports, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will initiate campaigns against domestic worker recruitment offices that do not follow the ministerial order to charge no more than 890 dinars, including travel charges and medical checks.
