Kuwait City: Hundreds of menial workers are systematically taking advantage of citizens' and residents' generosity to confidently contribute and collect new or used in-kind supplies as part of their charity activity, and they are especially active during the holy month of fasting. Despite the efforts of the Ministry of Social Affairs' supervision teams to apprehend violators and impersonators of charity work, the temptation of this group of workers to make quick money by selling donation clothes is too appealing.

According to sources, these workers will be found placing boxes near schools or near cooperative societies and coop branches, and the competent authorities were able to remove approximately 107 such booths and/or boxes that had been placed to collect used clothes in all governorates of the country since the start of the holy month of Ramadan. "We monitor daily the workers who unload the contents of the boxes of garments, and they are delivered to the relevant authorities, and there is coordination and follow-up with the Ministry of Social Affairs on their presence in the different regions," a Kuwait Municipality official said.

"There is cooperation from the tripartite committee led by the Public Authority for Manpower to monitor the stores in the suburbs of Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh and Khaitan, which resulted in the arrest of several people who were subsequently submitted to the Residence Affairs Investigations," he continued. According to the municipality official, used garments are separated and some of them are sold, while others are sold, transported abroad, and utilised for recycling.
