MOE PLANS TO BUY 55,000 NEW AIR CONDITIONING UNITS FOR SCHOOLS

Kuwait City: Eng. Saad Al-Mutairi, Director of the Maintenance Department in the Al-Jahra Educational District, proposed that the Ministry of Education purchase air-conditioning units for all schools directly from companies, with warranty, guarantee, and maintenance for at least 5 years, and in some cases up to 7 years, according to the device's manufacturer. The idea of buying air conditioners with warranties and maintenance, according to the same sources, is far superior to the procedure of maintenance contracts, which costs the ministry millions of dinars every year for no reason, and will solve the crisis of maintenance of these units in schools.

If the ministry buys a large number of air conditioners, estimated at 55,000, the price will be lower than the market pricing, since the unit price will not exceed 160 dinars with a 5-year warranty, bringing the total cost to roughly 9 million dinars. According to the sources, the value of maintenance contracts in each educational zone is 1.8 million dinars for a three-year period, or about 10 million dinars for all six educational districts, while schools suffer from delays and negligence on the part of some companies in performing necessary maintenance work.
