Dubai: The services of Zomato and Talabat, two of the UAE's leading food distribution platforms, have reportedly been disrupted. The crisis was caused by workers leaving their jobs demanding a pay rise. The restaurant staff also said that even the orders received could not be delivered.

Some of the delivery workers have reported on social media that they are leaving work demanding a pay rise. At the same time, Talabat said in a statement that employees can work on their platform as a source of income, ensuring a steady monthly income of up to AED 3,500 on average.

Until last week, employee satisfaction rates were over 70 per cent. There has been no change in the pay structure recently. But the company claims that they embody economic and political realities and are always willing to listen to what employees have to say.

The companies argue that refusing to work is not the right approach and is contrary to UAE guidelines. Apps show that many restaurants are currently not working or are busy. Apps also notice delays in operation. The restaurants also informed that the orders received in the morning were prepared but the delivery staff did not come to take them.

Companies offer a refund of 40% of the amount when orders are canceled. The restaurant owners say this is causing huge losses. There has been a lot of discussion on social media in the UAE about the shutdown of food delivery apps.
