FEED PRICES HAVE RISEN GLOBALLY, AND THE POULTRY FARMING ISSUE IN KUWAIT IS WORSENING

Kuwait City: Food industry consultant Mohammed al-Freyh said the crisis in poultry farming is exacerbated by rising global feed prices. Manufacturing companies do not receive government support. The government should provide all possible support to poultry and meat producers to mitigate the consequences of those global and regional conditions. Al-Freyh also stressed that the government should be allowed to raise prices to make up for its losses.

The current situation is leading some companies to stop production. He added that it would also affect food security. There are about 25 poultry and egg production companies in Kuwait. The six major companies in the region produce 35,000 tonnes of frozen, fresh and live chicken annually. This is 30 per cent of the local market demand. Mohammed al-Frih said local companies could increase production whenever government support was available.
