Kuwait City: The government and parliament have stepped up efforts to strengthen food security in the country in the wake of the global crisis. Many countries have been reluctant to export basic goods due to the global crisis. The cabinet met yesterday with Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Dr Mohammed al-Faris . It was decided to form a ministerial committee to improve the food security system.

The committee consists of the Minister of Commerce, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Municipal Affairs, the Minister of Social Development and the Minister of Power and Water. According to sources, Kuwait plans to increase the self-sufficiency of many food products at various rates by 2025. In 2019, the wheat adequacy ratio was 0.04 percent. The target is to increase this to five per cent within three years and to 10 per cent by 2035.
