Kuwait City: An informed source in the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) revealed that the total beneficiaries of the rent allowance during the first half of this year were approximately 135,000 citizens, with total money disbursed totaling 121 million dinars, indicating a significant increase in the amount spent on rent allowance.

According to the source, the rent allowance item has seen a significant increase in the last 30 years, with money disbursed for 1992 and 1993 increasing by up to 10 million dinars annually. According to the source, the PAHW has established rules and methods for the payment of rent allowance to eligible residents, and the beneficiary of the rent allowance must present the documents that qualify the citizen for this entitlement while opening a new housing care file.

The source stated that those entitled to the rent allowance must notify the PAHW of all changes that occur to their social and employment status, real estate ownership or the lapse of any eligibility condition, explaining that the authority has links with more than 11 government institutions with jurisdiction, to see any developments that occur in the case of real estate and social ownership. The source concluded that the PAHW is keen to redirect the rent allowance to its beneficiaries through data update and electronic linking operations that sort out undeserved cases, including those who divorced and don’t have children.
