Kuwait City: The state of Kuwait handed over to the Republic of Egypt five pharaonic antiquities confiscated by the customs department at Kuwait Airport in 2019. Sultan Al-Duwaish, head of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Literature's (NCCAL) artefacts and museums department, stated that these priceless artefacts, smuggled from Al-Uqsur, were closely examined by experts from Kuwait University, Poland, and Egypt, who concluded that three were original pieces dating back to 1400 B.C. and two were of questionable origins.

He further stated that a number of Kuwaiti agencies, including the foreign ministry, the customs department, and the NCCAL, collaborated with the Egyptian embassy in Kuwait to investigate and return these antiquities to their proper location, as mandated in international treaties. He stated that this is Kuwait's second transfer of historical relics to Egypt, the first being a wooden casket cover in 2018. Egyptian ambassador to Kuwait, Osama Shaltout, praised the involvement of Kuwaiti institutions and their hard efforts in returning antiques to their proper location.
