Kuwait City: On June 21, the Embassy of India in Kuwait celebrated the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in the renowned Red sandstone structure of the Embassy. In his inauguration remarks, HE Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Kuwait, emphasised the importance of Yoga, stating that it is a product of Indian civilization and a priceless gift of ancient India to the world. He described yoga as "a way of life for a healthy mind in a healthy body," rather than a religion. Yoga does not discriminate; everyone, regardless of strength, age, or skill, can do it.

Yoga has the intrinsic potential to unite people and cultures, he stated, emphasising that it transcends boundaries and brings everyone together as a unifying force. According to the ambassador, the main IDY 2022 event was held in Mysore, Karnataka, India, and was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Yoga provides us serenity," the Prime Minister was quoted as adding. Yoga brings tranquilly to more than just individuals. Yoga promotes social harmony. Yoga provides peace to our nations and harmony to the universe." The ceremonies in Kuwait were part of the Government of India's 'The Guardian Ring' initiative, which was a relay Yoga streaming event that captured and stitched together digital feeds of IDY programmes hosted by Indian missions/embassies throughout the world. It showed the IDY celebrations in 75 countries from East to West, with the Sun moving across 16 time zones.

Since the previous two months, the embassy has been arranging different events, both online and offline, in preparation for the IDY, including regular Yoga lessons and sessions. During today's celebrations, a Natya and Hatha Yoga session was held, followed by a Common Yoga Protocol session that was telecast live around the world and a live performance of Kalaripayattu, India's traditional martial art form.

During the occasion, the Ambassador unveiled a special edition of Ayush Bulletin, as well as a Herbal Plants Exhibition presenting remedies from Indian Home Gardens, an Ayurveda Exhibition highlighting daily Indian spices and herbs, and a Tea Tasting Event bringing the aroma of Indian tea to Kuwait. The event drew an enthusiastic reaction from more than 500 people from many walks of life, including foreign ambassadors, members of the media, Indian Diaspora, and lovers of India in Kuwait. More information about the event may be found on the embassy's website and social media accounts.
