HIGH NUMBER OF VISA VIOLATORS RESULTED IN SUSPENSION OF VISIT VISAS

Kuwait City: According to the Ministry of Interior's Twitter account, the decision was made on the orders of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant-General (Rtd.) Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf Al-Sabah to halt issuing family and tourist visit visas with immediate effect until further notice. The ministry stated that this is being done because the ministry's Residence Affairs Department is in the midst of implementing a "new procedure."

Expatriates who entered Kuwait on tourist and family visas in recent months and have not left despite their visas having expired, bringing the total number of visa violators to 20,000. This ruling does not apply to e-visas, which are issued directly at the airport to certain nations.

Over 70,000 expats entered Kuwait on vacation and family visas in 2022. The new process will impose controls and ensure that tourists depart soon when their visas expire; no three-month extensions will be permitted.

To safeguard demography, the collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and the Public Authority of Manpower would tighten the issuance of work visas and give work permits based on market needs. The new system will give considerable powers to directors of residence affairs departments in the six governorates in order to relieve the Residency Affairs department of visa applications.
