4,000 EXPATRIATES OVER THE AGE OF 60 LEFT KUWAIT IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THIS YEAR

Kuwait City: Expatriates over 60 continue to drop out of the labor market in Kuwait. Expatriates in this category are forced to leave the country because it costs more than 800 dinars to renew their work permit. It is estimated that 4,000 expatriates over the age of 60 left the country in the first quarter of this year. The figures have been released by the Central Administration of Statistics and Manpower Authority.


The work permit crisis has affected all types of workers over the age of 60. The crisis has affected those with all degrees and those with only a high school certificate. Those over 60 without a university degree face hefty fees to renew work permits, residency and health insurance. Those working in administrative and support services have left the country the most in the last three months.

1423 workers left the country from this sector alone. The construction sector lost 792 workers. 739 workers were laid off from agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors. According to the figures, 257 people from the accommodation and food services sector and 103 people from the manufacturing sector have left the country. The report also states that there has been an increase in the number of workers below the age of 60.
