PHILIPPINES RAISES AGE OF DOMESTIC WORKERS TO KUWAIT TO 24

Kuwait City: Filipinos raised the age of domestic workers who can work outside the country to 24. The action is to protect citizens from human trafficking. The decision will soon apply to Filipino domestic workers going to Kuwait and other countries. Domestic labor affairs expert Bassam Al Shammari said the change in the minimum age of domestic workers will not affect recruitment to Kuwait.

Kuwait will comply with the conditions that labor exporting countries wish to apply. The general situation of the domestic labor market is stable in the country. Many new contracts are being signed. However, the provision of 890 dinars proposed by the Ministry of Commerce is creating problems. The cost is higher than this when paying for things including flight tickets. Al Shammari added that a flight ticket from the Philippines to Kuwait alone costs 275 to 295 dinars.
